Dave,
Buddy, Pal,.... Guru... Sensai....
(1st solo) That minor 3rd, Eb is not an AMBIGUOUS note, it's a UBIQUITOUS note.
Ambiguous \Am*big"u*ous\, a. [L. ambiguus, fr. ambigere to
wander about, waver; amb- + agere to drive.]
Doubtful or uncertain, particularly in respect to
signification; capable of being understood in either of two
or more possible senses; equivocal; as, an ambiguous course;
an ambiguous expression.
[1913 Webster]
Ubiquitous \U*biq"ui*tous\ ([-u]*b[i^]k"w[i^]*t[u^]s), a. [See
Ubiquity.]
Existing or being everywhere, or in all places, at the same
time; omnipresent. -- U*biq"ui*tous*ly, adv.
[1913 Webster]
There.
Thank you.
Now, with that out of my system I can go on.
This lesson is great. Many thanks.

Perhaps he meant that it was outside of the scale that the solo was being played over like a passing tone or a note of interest. Depending on the scale and what key the solo is in. Assuming you're playing a solo in A minor pentatonic the Eb note would be considered an Ambigous note because its not a note you use as much as the other notes since its a blue note its a note you use every once in a while to accent or add interest.

It doesn't matter as long as you know what he's talking about.

Hi gang - love all the passion - awesome for sure! truth is I like to do many of the lessons unscripted. I have an outline and lesson plan - but I try and keep it live and energetic and not totally written out otherwise I found it comes across too sterile and like you are reading from a tele prompter. That said, I make many mistakes and slips of the tongue and probably could choose other words. I appreciate all the feedback - and I appreciate both the good and the bad - we need to hear it all as we keep tweaking what we are doing to make it all the best possible. So keep the feedback coming and keep on rocking!
take care

I've heard the word Ambiguous used in other guitar vids by other people; So I think it applies to what he was talking about in this instance.
