Default Reverend Jetstream 390

If you're looking for a Strat on steroids this is the axe for you. I just bought mine used on ebay and this is my second Reverend guitar, I also own a Club King RT.

The Jetstream 390 comes with 3 p90 pups hence the 390 designation. It has three controls, volume, tone and the proprietary bass contour control. It also has a 5 way selector switch. This allows you to dial in a strat quack or a beefy Les Paul tone using the pup combination and the bass contour knob which enhances the low end response. I'll compare this to a strat more than a LP due to body configuration and neck style. The neck is a medium oval, 25 1/2 scale with a 12" radius that is much more like a strat than an LP. The body has LP heft and weight to it but well balanced. Mine has the Wilkinson floating trem on it, the new models have a hardtail design. Playability is nice. Low action, no buzz, stays in tune If I don't dive bomb it, a roller nut will solve this problem.
I've seen a TON of "what guitar should I get" questions on here and I have to say if you are torn between an LP or Strat or if you like the LP but you don't like the necks, this guitar will not be a dissapointment. Made in Korea but the quality of the materials and build suggest a much more expensive guitar. They retail around $599.00, I bought mine used for $400.00 Reverends have a cult like following and are not at every corner music store. I would suggest going to their site and doing a dealer search if you are interested. They also have sound clips on the site to listen to which go through all the pups clean and with gain.

I realize I'm bumping a fairly old thread, but I have to second Crash's recommendation to consider Reverend guitars. I saw the review of the Reverend Club King with P90s on Next Level Guitar and became interested. After some research I bought a used Warhawk on eBay and immediately was 'hooked'. Quality, playability and tone are fantastic. The Warhawk has a shorter scale set neck than the bolt-on neck Jetstream that Crash reviewed. For someone who prefers the shorter Gibson style neck Reverend has a line of guitars that compete but are not knock offs. They are honestly better.

I have a Fender Am Strat, Gibson ES-359 semi-hollowbody, Gibson LP Standard and a few other guitars as well as the Warhawk, but would absolutely buy another Reverend rather than ever spending the money for another Fender or Gibson.

One caution - it is hard not to get caught up buying more Reverends once you play one. The set neck, bolt on and hollow body models cover almost every variation you might want. However they constantly introduce new models and colors and retire older versions.

A second caution - before introducing the current import line Reverend made a very unique line of made-in-the-USA guitars that are becoming hard to find but still show up on eBay once in a while. The old Reverend USA guitars are very different from the current line. They also made a few very high quality amps. As Crash mentioned you can learn more at the Reverend website and forum.

Be careful - its easy to get hooked on Reverends.

See, I told you they were addictive lol. The best bang for the buck you can get. My next Reverend will be the Buckshot which also won Guitar Players Editors Pick award. Check it out...

Default Reverend guitars

Yeah Crash, I blamed this new addiction on you and others at the Reverend forum. If you get a call from some woman babbling incoherently about a room full of guitars you know she has tracked you down LOL.

Actually I'm really interested in the Flatroc or possibly the Buckshot. Love the Revtron pickups. Can you compare the two?

Then of course there's the Unknown Hinson signature which ships in December. Semi hollowbody, rumored to be a short scale bolt on neck, bat inlays. I really need one of those. Probably would not need the ES-359 with the sticky neck if I got the Hinson.

As you suggested, just got a Jet Stream off of eBay and is in transit. Can't wait to try it out. paid $440.00 +shipping. Seems reasonable but will reserve judgement till I get it. Thanks for the encouragement.

Crash, got the JETSTREAM HB-FM today. OMG what a great guitar. I can't believe the quality and tone for the money. It will stand up right next to my EB MusicMan Albert Lee and Luke, Fender USA Strat or similar guitar I currently own. AND FOR 1/2 the price. I think I will try to pick up a Club King to see if they are as good. You guys are correct, this may be the start of an addictive relationship. I just hope the word doesn't get out till I have all the ones I want!!

If you get the Club King RT you will notice the pickups aren't as hot as the P-90's, in other words, the output is less. This is not to say they don't sound good, you get a tele / gretsch tone from it. The body is bigger than the Jet Stream yet not as thick as a Gretsch. The shape makes it much more managable. I love my CKRT and don't plan on ever getting rid of it as well as my Jet Stream. I agree that the quality is right up there with the EB Music Man and the American strats at more than half the cost. Joe sets up all his guitars here in the US before they ship to the dealers so every single one goes through QC before you get it. Both my Reverends came to me playable, I had only a minor neck adjustment to my CKRT when I got it, probably due to temp and humidity changes.

Dhstaab, no problem amigo I'll take the blame. Being a Reverend junkie myself I have become quite proficient at the "forgivness" game. Hey a man has his needs too LOL.
As far as a comparison between the Flatroc and the Buckshot I would direct you to the Reverend site. I have not played a Flatroc but have played a Buckshot, it's very much a Telecaster but has a greater tone variation. It will be my next Reverend purchase but a Mesa Electradyne is in line first. Finally played through one of those down at GC a few weeks ago and am blown away with the amp.

Default Welcome to the Reverend family MaxEllison

You made a great choice with the Jetstream. Seems to be extremely popular with Reverend fanatics.

I've added a Reverend Gil Parris to my Warhawk and my collection of 4 Reverend USA guitars. Got a deal I couldn't pass on.

With the help of Crash and others at the Reverend forum I've about talked myself into getting a Club King RT or the Flatroc. Something about the Revtron pickups sounds Gretchy with great tone at a fraction of the cost. And as you've discovered, the playability of the neck on the Reverends is what I looked for for a long time.

My latest addiction is Reverend Hellhound and Goblin amps that are no longer made. Not many were made but they do show up on eBay occasionally.

Hope you enjoy the Jetstream!

Can I ask where the Reverend Forum you referred to is located. In the mean time I will do a google search to see if I can locate it. Thanks guys for the info, I'm surfing the sites for that Club King RT!!
