Ps I don't really hate John Petrucci,, I guess I'm just a little jealous of his playing... thats why I'm here.
I want to improve so that one day have a guitar battle with him... ;p

numnutz here,

Been checking out NLG for a couple of months now...great stuff. Sorry to see that they are closing shop. Just bought the close out special, 32 DVD lessons for $137.00...that's one seriously good deal.

Thanks to Tim, Dave & the rest for all the knowledge and help.

It's SO good to hear that the doors are NOT literally closing. Just "weird" wording in the subject line, according to Tim's forum post.

So, ROCK ON, Good People!

Default Introducing Myself

Hello, Good People!

Since I just posted a reply to a post in here, I thought it might be prudent for me to finally introduce myself.

Of course, like many of you, I discovered David's videos on YouTube when I was scouting for online lessons. I am drawn to David's enthusiasm and his attention to detail. I feel like he's in the room with me, and even when I can't quite make that chord shape, I swear he's practically reaching out and moving my fingers into place. I don't think I could have a better teacher, and I'm starting to finally feel enthusiastic about playing the guitar again, after getting over some of the hurdles of beginner lessons 1-99. When I found the segment where David suggested songs to play that would help reinforce the lessons, I was PUMPED!

My history with the guitar started when I was in my teens, when I received my first guitar for a Christmas gift in 1968. It was a Kent classical guitar. I still have it; and, with some work, it still sounds pretty good. I took a few lessons at the YMCA. The one song I remember from that class, and still play, is "A'Soalin'" (made famous by Peter, Paul & Mary). I have always loved most kinds of music, but the discovery of Styx "One With Everything" DVD (I hear giggling out there. ) and my love of playing RockBand with my husband and grown kids really propelled me to get back to my rockin' roots.

So now, at 50-something, I have my old faithful Kent classical and a new/old electric blue Yamaha electric sitting in their stands in my computer room, along with the used Peavey speaker I bought from Guitar Center. My intention is to get good enough to be able to help accompany the contemporary Christian singing group I've been with for 7 years. We have had guitar accompaniment at various times, but not lately, and I miss it. I'd LOVE to eventually aquire a nice acoustic/electric guitar for this purpose. Also, I really want to learn how to play barre chords and distort my amp so I can play the first part of "Enter Sandman" on my Yamaha with more panache.

I realize most of the guitar players in here are guys. I would love to talk with some of the GALS in here. Maybe I should start a thread in the forum.

Hey .. I'm Gus, and I'm from Penngrove, California.
I got interested in Guitar a few years ago. A bassman for Steve Miller Band got me interested. Started buying toys, before I took any lessons.
Have only been playing for about a year now. Love it. Really paying attention and working this NLG. They keep putting out DVD's and I keep buying them. Can't wait to get the next set.
Thanks - Dave, Tim ... I'm improving, but, fishing and kayaking keeps getting in the way.
I've got amps in my family room, office and bedroom and guitar stands everywhere throughout the house - and - a NLG video in the dvd player all the time.
I'll get a picture of my toys up later.
Keep strumming -

Hi there,

My name is Hubert and i'm actually a Premium Member for quite a while now, though I never registered on the forum. I'm 21 years old, and from Holland. I've always loved the sound of the guitar when I was younger and eventually bought a simple guitar (Yamaha C40 if i'm not mistaking). Now i'm following David's (and the other instructorss of NLG) lessons for 4 months now and i'm quite happy with the results.

Well now that small introduction is out of the way, nice to meet all of you and you'll be seeing me around these forums more often!

Regards, Hubert.
