The reason your 56 is not sticky is because it is old and has been worn down.

And yes, it sucks that you pay so much for these guitars and they are nothing but problems. All of my Re-issues do it, it is something you have to deal with. The manufacturer won't do anything to fix it.

Its hard to belive that Gibsons answer to buying a new guitar form them is, don't put it in a stand and let it dry out with long trem contact with air. What a joke, spend 2 grand on a guitar that will be fine sometime down the road. I am not a big GIbson electic fan, but your post gave me another reason not to like them.

I just bought an 08 deluxe strat which I think is supposed to have the nitro (or what they market as nitro) on it. It doest get sticky anywhere. I realy dont care what its finished with, its a great guitar for me and if it was to get sticky while playing it, Id let Fender (or add your favorite maker) know where to 'stick ' it.

Actually the ES-359 goes for 3 grand. Maybe that's why they put the extra nitro on it at no extra charge. It's the most expensive guitar I have ever bought. Never had this problem with my Fenders or other nitro finished guitars.

I bought both of these Gibsons this year - my first Gibsons ever after dreaming of getting a Gibson for years. I do think the Les Paul has improved slightly over time, but its hard to tell for sure. The ES-359 is only a couple of months old and it gets sticky enough after playing for a while that sometimes a piece of paper will stick to it without falling. It's hard to even slide your hand down the neck because it 'catches'. Really throws off your timing.

So both Gibsons look very pretty sitting by themselves leaning against the white towels in the corner while I play my other guitars. They really are gorgeous guitars but are rather expensive as decorations.

If the ES-359 does not improve noticeably by the end of December when the Reverend Unknown Hinson semi hollowbody is due out I will probably trade it for a Hinson and a couple of other new Reverends. Three months ago I had no Reverends and now I have 5, including 3 of the old USA Reverends that are no longer made.

So for now I am happily playing my Strat, Reverends and an old '87 Moridira Hurricane which is probably the best of the bunch.

I've cost Gibson one guitar sale for sure all ready when I convinced someone to go for a Fender instead, and will keep telling people about it until it 'cures'.

I started this thread looking for a new solution, but now that bobthecow and my 'friend' from Gibson have both explained that this is normal for nitro finished Gibsons its become something of a mission to spread the word. I guess the message is if you charge enough for something everyone who buys one will convince themselves it is the greatest thing going. I'll admit I was dumb for not doing my homework on new Gibsons.

I'll let you know if I see any improvement in a month. I'm still hoping to salvage these guitars after what I invested in them.

I'm in the automotive industry and I'm in body shops all day long, and I'm here to tell you that it takes 3 months for paint to fully cure. They are dry to the touch and can be worked after 4 hours or less, Nitro even less. If it's sticky and the Gibson rep actually told you what he told you, take the thing back to GC, get your money back and buy a Reverend Sensei.
I do know for a fact that the standard black foam you find on most guitar stands will react with the nitro, dry or not. Even if it's 30 years old. There are guitar stands on the market that are nitro friendly.
