In this two-hour DVD I break down and explain in our easy to digest format the classic rocker LIVING AFTER MIDNIGHT made famous by the metal gods JUDAS PRIEST. This is such a fun and fairly easy song to play and we will get you rocking out on this rocker very fast! This is the full on song lesson and when we say “full song lesson” we mean it. We teach ALL the song parts – intro, verses, rhythms, chorus, timing, strumming and picking techniques, chords and embellishments, full guitar solo, and more. David also discusses how he will teach you to play the song with one guitar by teaching the needed techniques to really fill up the sound and make your one guitar sound big and full - like two guitars! So you learn it all possible ways! You learn techniques as well as the song, so then you can blast them all across all your playing and practicing.

The song is broken down and explained and demonstrated at slow speed and regular speed. We break each section into digestible parts and we get you playing and rocking out in the fastest and most efficient manner. If you are familiar with our teaching methods you know that we take songs sections one at a time and break them down into smaller sections, explaining every piece as we go along. Then we show you how to tie everything together. We also have on screen text, multiple camera angles, two camera picture-in-picture, and close ups of the fret hand and pick hand to make the learning process even easier.

DVD Introduction & Chord Library – In the DVD Introduction David discusses the format for the coming lessons, the structure of the song, and how to piece the song together in the fastest and most efficient manner. David also talks about the techniques needed to cop the feel of the song. He discusses the gear and tuning used in the DVD and how he gets the needed tones as far as guitar and pickup choices, guitar settings, amps, and effects. He discusses pickup and amp settings as well as different gain/distortion levels and effects and effect levels used in the DVD as well as on the CD. In the Chord Library David takes you in on a very tight shot on the neck and goes over each chord that you will need to play in the song. You will also see the chord names and fret numbers flash on the screen with our on-screen text. Having this text makes learning even easier and ties it all together. He also explains string-muting techniques that will help to clean up your playing and cancel any unwanted string noise and pops when playing these chords. These string-muting techniques are essential and you will find yourself utilizing them all the time in your playing. David also weaves in some music theory to tie it all together and help you as you move forward in your guitar journey.

Chorus – In this section David teaches you the chorus of the song, which is the same as the guitar intro – same progression. All chords and progressions are played at regular speed and slow speeds. David breaks down each section and explains them in total while the on screen text displays all progressions. While explaining the intro & chorus David also teaches the strumming, picking techniques, string muting, how to kill the chords, proper finger positioning, and how to cop the feel of the song utilizing these techniques. It’s all explained in digestible pieces as per our easy teaching methodology. David also shows you how to connect these sections to other parts of the song. All along David gives tips and tricks to make your playing easier. David also plays the progression slow multiple times so you can play along and practice.

Verses & Bridge - In the Verses Section David takes you through the verse and pre-chorus progressions with plenty of on-screen text to make learning easy. He also shows you how to connect the verses to the pre-chorus. All sections are played at both slow and regular speeds. David teaches the technique of palm muting and how to get that real heavy sound. Tight camera shots on the pick hand show all the details of these techniques up close and personal. David also teaches you how to thicken up or fatten the sound so you can have the fullest sound possible. David also plays through all the parts strung together slow, multiple times, so you can play along and practice with him. You will also learn some alternate ways to play certain chords as you have some choices to make playing even easier.

In the Bridge Section David goes over the bridge progression and needed chords. He teaches where the bridge is located and how to connect it into the other song parts. He also teaches you the easiest way to play the needed chords as well as the feel and timing for the bridge.

Guitar Solo – In this section you will learn the complete guitar solo and which rhythm is played underneath the solo. David goes over the guitar solo in easily understandable pieces. He separates and teaches each lick at slow and regular speeds as well as he demonstrates and explains with a tight shot of the neck. David also discusses the theory behind the solo and what scales the solo is mainly taken from. David teaches what fingerings work best for fluidity, and how to piece the entire solo together – you will learn it all up close and personal.

Bonus Lessons – In this section you get four full on bonus lessons:

1. Practice Exercises With 5ths, power chords, and bar chords – One of the most common emails we get here at Next Level Guitar is from students asking for help with bar chords and changing bar chords. Bar chords and bar chord changing can be one of the most challenging techniques for the guitarist at this level. However, we will get you there fast. In this lesson David teaches various practice exercises with 5th chords, power chords, and bar chords. These exercises will really help you to master bar chord changes by first getting proficient at 5th and power chord changing. David shows you chord changing exercises that will help push your playing to the next level.

2. Palm Muting Lesson – In this lesson David goes into detail all about the technique of palm muting. You will learn the proper way to palm mute as well as various ways to develop rhythms utilizing palm muting. David takes you through some progressions and demonstrates just how much you can do with palm muting. You will learn both the right and left hand techniques working together as well as killing chords to get some real killer sounds and different rhythmic embellishments that you can blast across all your playing.

3. Lead Guitar Hammer-On and Pull-Off Lesson – In this lesson David teaches the proper techniques to execute correct and clean hammer-ons and pull-offs. These techniques are essential for any lead guitar player so you really want to get good at them. David will teach you all the needed techniques and also how to incorporate string muting so you don’t get any string noise when executing. David also discusses the importance of strengthening your fret hand and the exercises in this lesson really work on getting that fret hand stronger and more dexterous. David goes over many different exercise variations and routines to incorporate into your practice regimens as well as many other tips and tricks to help you with your lead guitar playing.

4. Pinch Harmonics or Artificial Harmonics lessons – make your notes scream! – In this lesson David teaches the technique of screaming artificial or pinch harmonics. You will learn how to make your notes scream using this technique. Its one of the most popular techniques to learn and utilize in your playing. David goes over all the tricks to get you playing them in the fastest and most efficient manner. He shows the needed pick technique, importance of intervals, use of the thumb, as well as pickups, gear, and amp settings. You will be rocking them out in no time!
