In this two-hour DVD I break down and explain in our easy to digest format the classic song by Kiss DETROIT ROCK CITY. And man there are some cool guitars in this song! This is the full on song lesson and when we say “full song lesson” we mean it. We teach ALL the song parts – intro, verses, rhythms, chorus, timing, strumming and strum patterns, embellishments, licks, full guitar solos, and more. I also show you how to play the harmony guitar parts on one guitar as well as many other parts for two guitars. Plus in this DVD we also have a bonus lesson on power chord and fifth chord practice and proficiency. You learn the techniques as well as the song, so then you can blast them all across all your playing and practicing.
The song is broken down and explained and demonstrated at slow speed and regular speed. We break each section into digestible parts and we get you playing and rocking out in the fastest and most efficient manner. If you are familiar with our teaching methods you know that we take songs sections one at a time and break them down into smaller sections, explaining every piece as we go along. Then we show you how to tie everything together. We also have on screen text, multiple camera angles, picture-in-picture, and close ups of the fret hand to make the learning process even easier.
Keep in mind that this DVD is way more than just a song lesson. We help teach guitar by using popular songs as vehicles to get your playing to the next level. Below is the complete DVD menu and synopsis of all the lessons on this DVD – feel free to email us any questions and rock on!
DVD Introduction – In this introduction David discusses the lesson format, the structure for the coming song lessons, and how to piece the song together in the fastest and most efficient manner. He also talks about the gear and tuning used in the DVD and how he gets the needed tones as far as guitar, pickups, amps, and effects. He discusses pickup and amp settings as well as different gain/distortion levels.
Chord Library – Here David takes you in on a very tight shot on the neck and goes over each chord that you will need to play in the song. You will also see the chord names and fret numbers flash on the screen with our on-screen text. David also teaches you chord playing techniques with power and 5th chords to get you playing in the fastest and most efficient manner.
Guitar Intro - Here the guitar intro is broken down into digestible pieces lick by lick. You get multi camera angles with all licks played at regular speed and slow speeds. The camera is then zoomed in on tight shot and David breaks down each lick and explains what notes and frets to play. David shows you how to play the intro with one guitar and also shows you to play the harmonized lines if you have two guitars. You see it all up close with a tight shot of the neck. It’s all explained in digestible pieces as per our easy and fast teaching methodology. All along David gives other tips and tricks to make your playing easier.
Verses – Here you will learn the rhythm and chords used in all the verses in the song. David takes you through the progression and all chords with both wide and close up camera angles. David breaks everything down at slow and regular speeds and you see all and chords also written in on screen text. He also shows you how to connect the intro with the verses and then the verses to the chorus.
Chorus – In this section you will learn to play the chorus section four different ways. They change up the chorus and add licks in different ways and David will show you each way taking you through all the licks and embellishments. There are long and short series of licks and you will learn them both with up close shots of the neck and at slow and regular speeds. David also teaches how to get out of the chorus section and back into the verses or other parts of the song.
Guitar solo – In this section you will learn the guitar solo. On the original recording there are 5 guitars playing at one time and David explains what each guitar is doing. He then shows you two different ways of playing the solo for one guitar. He takes pieces of all the different parts and combines them so you can play the solo on one guitar. David goes over in easily understandable pieces each lick as well as each lick is broken down and played at slow and regular speeds as well as demonstrated and explained with a tight shot of the neck. David also discusses the theory behind the solo and what scale and mode the lead is mainly taken from. David also teaches what fingerings work best for fluidity, and how to piece the entire solo together – you will learn it all up close and personal.
Bonus Lesson – In the bonus lesson David teaches practice exercises with 5th chords, power chords, and bar chords. These exercises will really help you to master bar chord changes. David shows you a bunch of different ways to practice the exercises to help push your playing to the next level.
